Spin energy enhanced by exchange interaction in a Rashba spintronic system in quantizing magnetic fields

چکیده
Using the standard Hartree-Fock approximation on the basis of the random-phase approximation, we calculate the self-energy induced by exchange scattering due to electron-electron interaction in a spin-polarized two-dimensional electron gas 2DEG system. Applying the exchange self-energy to a Green’s function approach, we examine how the exchange interaction affects the spin-splitting in a 2DEG with the Rashba spin-orbit interaction and Zeeman spin-splitting in the presence of quantizing magnetic fields. It is demonstrated that such a many-body interaction can lower the energy levels of the system and enhance significantly the spin-splitting around the Fermi level. We also find that the exchange-enhanced spin-splitting is achieved mainly via intra-Landau-level scattering channels and the spin energy oscillates with the magnetic fields. © 2008 American Institute of Physics. Strong tuning of Rashba spin-orbit interaction in single InAs nanowires.
A key concept in the emerging field of spintronics is the gate voltage or electric field control of spin precession via the effective magnetic field generated by the Rashba spin-orbit interaction. Here, we demonstrate the generation and tuning of electric field induced Rashba spin-orbit interaction in InAs nanowires where a strong electric field is created by either a double gate or a solid ele...
متن کاملAn Alternate Spintronic Analog of the Electro-optic Modulator
There is significant current interest in spintronic devices fashioned after a spin analog of the electro-optic modulator proposed by Datta and Das [Appl. Phys. Lett., 56, 665 (1990)]. In their modulator, the “modulation” of the spin polarized current is carried out by tuning the Rashba spin-orbit interaction with a gate voltage. Here, we propose an analogous modulator where the modulation is ca...

The magnetoresistance of a one-dimensional electron gas in a metallic ferromagnetic nanowire containing two atomic-size domain walls has been investigated in the presence of spin-orbit interaction. The magnetoresistance is calculated in the ballistic regime, within the Landauer-Büttiker formalism. It has been demonstrated that the conductance of a magnetic nanowire with double domain walls...
متن کاملStrongly modulated transmission of a spin-split quantum wire with local Rashba interaction
We investigate the transport properties of ballistic quantum wires in the presence of Zeeman spin splittings and a spatially inhomogeneous Rashba interaction. The Zeeman interaction is extended along the wire and produces gaps in the energy spectrum, which allow electron propagation only for spinors lying along a certain direction. For spins in the opposite direction, the waves are evanescent f...
متن کاملMeasurement of Rashba and Dresselhaus spin–orbit magnetic fields
Spin–orbit coupling is a manifestation of special relativity. In the reference frame of a moving electron, electric fields transform into magnetic fields, which interact with the electron spin and lift the degeneracy of spin-up and spin-down states. In solid-state systems, the resulting spin–orbit fields are referred to as Dresselhaus and Rashba fields, depending on whether the electric fields ...
